Key Takeaways
Leading US solar EPC contractor SOLV Energy, previously Swinerton Renewable Energy, has strengthened its service offerings with the acquisition of drilling company Sacramento Drilling (SDI Services) for an undisclosed amount.
SOLV Energy says this acquisition boosts its portfolio and brings it highly skilled talent and capacity to deliver top-tier project execution outcomes. The company has been working with SDI since 2019 as a solar predrill and pile foundation installation service provider.
Both companies have worked together on more than 8 facilities designed and constructed by SOLV Energy.
“SOLV shares our values and sees great potential in what we can do together. This combination will bring SDI Services new opportunities for growth, innovation and career advancement for our employees,” said CEO of SDI Services Pietro Saviotti.
Together, the 2 companies plan to work jointly on projects to optimize installation and improve operational efficiency for utility-scale solar projects.
SOLV Energy has installed over 20 GW of utility-scale solar and storage projects since 2008 and has also been operating more than 15 GW of renewable energy assets across the US. It was the top solar EPC contractor on Wiki-Solar’s list of top solar EPC companies globally, at the end of September 2024 (see US, Chinese & Indian Companies Top Solar EPC Contractors' List).
The scope for utility-scale solar in the US remains bright as it is already the driving force for PV in this market. According to the American Clean Power Association, at the end of Q3 2024, close to 91 GW was in the pipeline in this segment.
