rPlus Energies has announced the acquisition of two major solar and energy storage projects in Ada County, Idaho. The two projects—Blacks Creek Energy Center and Bluebird Solar—add up to a combined 900 megawatts of planned energy and storage capacity. With this acquisition, rPlus Energies further strengthens its position as the largest solar and storage developer in the state. Blacks Creek Energy Center, purchased from Qcells, consists of 400 MW of solar capacity and an additional phase that includes 200 MW of battery storage.
Bluebird Solar, acquired from Mission Clean Energy, will add another 200 MW of solar capacity along with 100 MW of storage. The two projects are expected to begin operations in 2027 and 2028. These additions build on the company’s growing footprint in Ada County. rPlus Energies already maintains a downtown Boise office and is developing Pleasant Valley Solar 1, in which it holds a minority stake. Pleasant Valley Solar 2, fully owned by rPlus Energies, is currently under construction.
Together, all four projects represent more than USD 1.4 billion in planned investment and over 1.2 GW of combined solar and storage capacity for the region. Luigi Resta, President and CEO of rPlus Energies, said that Idaho is becoming one of the most promising regions for energy development in the western United States. He stated that these projects reflect the company’s commitment to supporting local communities and providing the reliable, locally sourced energy that Idaho’s economy needs for future growth.
Bobbi-Jo Meuleman, President and CEO of the Boise Metro Chamber, noted that Idaho is demonstrating how economic expansion and responsible energy development can progress together. She added that investments like these help keep the Treasure Valley region strong, competitive, and prepared for the future. The legal advisors supporting the acquisitions were Latham & Watkins LLP for the Blacks Creek Energy Center transaction and Dorsey & Whitney LLP for the Bluebird Solar acquisition.
