NTPC, GRIDCO, and CRUT have come together to promote green energy in Odisha. On December 23, 2024, the three parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Bhubaneswar. This collaboration focuses on advancing green energy technologies, particularly the green hydrogen mobility initiative. GRIDCO is a Government of Odisha undertaking, and CRUT is the state’s public transit agency.
The MoU was exchanged between Shri DMR Panda, CGM (RE) of NTPC, Shri Trilochan Panda, MD of GRIDCO, and Dr. N Thirumala Naik, IAS, MD of CRUT. The event took place in the presence of Shri Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister, and Dr. Krushna Chandra Mohapatra, Hon’ble Housing & Urban Development Minister of Odisha. Shri V K Dev, IAS, Principal Secretary of Energy, Ms. Usha Padhee, IAS, Principal Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, and other senior officials from NTPC, GRIDCO, and CRUT also attended the occasion.
NTPC plans to establish a green hydrogen fueling station in Bhubaneswar, along with hydrogen-powered buses for both short and long-distance travel. This initiative aims to replace fossil fuel buses with cleaner, greener alternatives, promoting decarbonization and energy security. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has partially funded this project in Bhubaneswar.
NTPC has been successfully running a green hydrogen blending project in Surat, Gujarat, for the past two years and has launched similar mobility projects in Leh (Ladakh), Greater Noida (Uttar Pradesh), and Kandla (Gujarat). Additionally, NTPC is developing a green hydrogen hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, and is on track to achieve 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032.
