Korea Western Power is teaming up with industrial gas giant Linde Korea to scale up clean hydrogen power generation and carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies across South Korea.
The agreement, signed in Venecia, Seosan, aims to support the government’s 2050 net-zero roadmap by enhancing domestic capabilities in hydrogen production, liquefaction, storage, and CO₂ management.
“We will strengthen our clean hydrogen power generation capabilities through CCS technology in cooperation with world-renowned hydrogen companies,” said Lee Jung-bok, president of Western Power.
Linde Korea, a subsidiary of global player Linde Group, brings extensive technical expertise across the hydrogen value chain—from gas production to carbon liquefaction and geological storage. The memorandum outlines collaboration on clean hydrogen production and supply, CCS technology development, business model building, and tech exchange workshops. Linde’s engineering capabilities are expected to accelerate Western Power’s ambition to deploy carbon-free hydrogen power plants across Korea.
The partnership is expected to unlock core technologies and boost Western Power’s competitive edge in hydrogen power generation.
“We will continue to take the lead in realizing the government's energy conversion policy by constantly upgrading technology to build clean hydrogen-based carbon-free power plants,” added Lee. The deal reflects Korea’s broader push to decarbonize its power sector using imported clean hydrogen, local CCS capacity, and global industrial partnerships.
