Hindustan Power has secured a major contract from the Solar Energy Corporation of India for a solar and battery storage project with a capacity of 150 MW. The project was awarded through SECI’s competitive bidding process and is part of the ISTS-connected solar tender that includes an integrated battery system. This development marks an important step in strengthening India’s renewable energy infrastructure and improving grid reliability.

The project will include around 300 MWp of solar photovoltaic capacity and a 300 MWh battery energy storage system. The hybrid model is intended to deliver stable and dispatchable power, helping manage fluctuations in renewable generation and support peak electricity demand. The bidding process used a transparent tariff-based mechanism supported by an e-reverse auction, enabling efficient price discovery and competitive participation. The flexibility of the project will allow deployment across different possible sites in the country.

Ratul Puri, Chairman of Hindustan Power, stated that the project holds significant value for India’s energy transition plans. He highlighted that integrating storage with solar is essential for meeting future power requirements and ensuring a stable supply as renewable penetration grows. Hindustan Power already has several major renewable projects under development, including a 435 MW solar plant in Uttar Pradesh and a 100 MW solar-plus-storage project in Assam.

This latest project reflects the growing importance of combining solar power with battery storage in the Indian market. The approach supports long-term sustainability, strengthens energy security, and accelerates progress toward national clean energy goals.
