Key Takeaways

  • Boviet Solar’s 2 GW solar module and 2 GW solar cell production plans are on track
  • It plans to start producing solar modules from its Greenville factory from H1 2025
  • Solar cell production at the same location is planned to begin from H1 2026

Solar PV manufacturer Boviet Solar Technology says its manufacturing plans are on track to achieve its targeted production ramp-up of the 2 GW solar module factory in North Carolina, US in H1 2025. It will be the company’s first North American production hub.

The company is building its new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Pitt County’s Greenville in North Carolina. The $294 million investment in Greenville is to be realized in 2 phases.

Under phase 1, the factory will produce 2 GW of solar panels annually with mass production starting in H1 2025. More than 50% of the equipment has been installed, with the remaining equipment to be positioned by the end of January 2025.

Under Phase II, it will begin mass grading on-site in January 2025, leading to the production of high-efficiency solar cells with a 2 GW annual capacity. Mass production of solar cells will begin in H1 2026.

Boviet Solar will produce its n-type Gamma Series Monofacial and Vega Series Bifacial solar modules in Greenville. Together, these module and cell facilities will create close to 908 skilled local jobs, stated the manufacturer.

“Our teams’ hard work and collaboration have brought us closer to establishing a strong local manufacturing presence. The Greenville facility will play a pivotal role in meeting the energy needs of utility-scale and large commercial projects across North America,” said Boviet Solar USA President Sienna Cen.

Founded and headquartered in Vietnam in 2013, Boviet Solar operates 3 GW of solar cell and module manufacturing capacity in the US and Vietnam. Boviet Solar operates in these markets as part of Ningbo Boway, which is part of China’s Boway Group. Ningbo Boway had announced plans to manufacture TOPCon solar cells and modules in the US with 2 GW capacity each in April 2024 (see Chinese Solar Manufacturer Plans TOPCon Production In US).

Boviet Solar was slapped a 0.81% de minimis preliminary countervailing duty (CVD) rate by the US Department of Commerce in the Preliminary Determination into its anti-dumping investigation into Chinese solar companies accessing the US market through the 4 Southeast Asian nations of Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia and Thailand.
