On March 6th, 2013, Sunverge Energy Inc. (San Francisco, California, U.S.) announced that it has received UL 1778 certification from Intertek Testing Services for its Solar Integration System (SIS).

The SIS is breaking down preconceived industry barriers and changing the way the world looks at renewable energy, Sunverge emphasizes.

By capturing the synergies between solar photovoltaic (PV) panels and energy storage, the SIS optimizes the individual benefits of clean electricity generation and requires half the size of many traditional solar arrays, delivering superior energy value at a lower total cost of ownership, the producer notes.

Sunverge meets all of the product safety standards in all countries where UL standards are accepted.

"The Sunverge SIS performed extremely well throughout the entire test process. This certification signifies that Sunverge meets all of the product safety standards for connection to a utility power grid anywhere in the United States or other countries where UL standards are accepted," Sunverge Energy Chairman and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Dean Sanders stated.

With UL certification, Sunverge Energy meets the highest industry standards for safe and reliable implementation of energy storage devices (ES), power electronics connected distributed energy resources (DER), hybrid generation-storage systems (ES-DER), and plug-in electric vehicles (PEV) co-located with energy storage, the company adds.

"The combination of certification testing and experienced gained through our utility partnerships have reinforced our belief that we are setting the pace in this rapidly emerging market. In our residential, commercial, and utility distribution projects, Sunverge is delivering the industry's safest and most advanced distributed energy storage solutions," Sanders added.

The UL 1778 certification incorporates conformance to UL 1741 and IEEE 1547.1 requirements for the interconnection of renewable and distributed energy resources with energy storage, and additionally encompasses relevant UL standards 1989, 1642, 60730-1, 873, and UL rating 50E for outdoor and indoor applications, the company states.
